(Houston, TX- August 24, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) announced today that it had received a grant $45,239 from The MidwayUSA Foundation in support of HSCF’s youth and shooting sports education and outreach programs.

The MidwayUSA Foundation has been a long-time supporter of HSCF’s youth programs include the Youth Wildlife Conservation Experience (YWCE) conducted at HSCF’s Annual Worldwide Hunting Expo & Convention. Through this program, HSCF annually hosts hundreds of area high school students for a day of career introductions to outdoor-related professions. HSCF also provides and supports various programs which introduce a new generation of young people to the outdoors. These programs include interactive experiences in the classroom, in the field and on the water. HSCF also provides ongoing support of high school and collegiate competitive shooting teams.

(Houston, TX- August 20, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) and “Hunting Matters” welcomes Rob Wallace, Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks.

Rob Wallace, Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, currently oversees policy and personnel for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Parks Service.

In his previous work in the private sector, Wallace was focused on working with ranchers, energy companies, conservationists, and regulators to balance the needs of conservation and energy development in the West. A native of Evanston, Wyoming and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Wallace’s government experience includes time as both a seasonal ranger and, later in his career, assistant director of Legislative and Congressional Affairs for the National Park Service. He has been chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Wallop (WY-R), Republican staff director of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and chief of staff to Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer. In the private sector, he led U.S. government relations for GE Energy where he co-chaired the Government Relations Operating Council. The council coordinated the company’s energy advocacy throughout the world.

(Houston, TX- August 13, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) and “Hunting Matters” welcomes New York Times Best Selling author and Pulitzer Prize winner, Stephen Hunter.

Stephen Hunter is a New York Times Best Selling author of 20 novels and the retired chief film critic for the Washington Post, where he won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Criticism. In 1968, Hunter Graduated with a degree in Journalism from Medill School at Northwestern. From there, he went on to Military service, becoming one of the guards honored at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1971, using his journalism degree, Hunter became a writer at the Baltimore Sun and was the paper’s first film critic by 1982. From there, he assumed a position with the Washington Post in 1997. Having found his true niche, Hunter became highly successful as a film critic, winning a Pulitzer Prize for his movie criticism and a Distinguished Writing Award with ASNE.

Hunter has penned 27 novels, short stories, and novellas. His “Bob Lee Swagger” character has been featured in 11 novels, including “Point of Impact”, which was adapted for film and TV as “Shooter”. Hunter lives in Baltimore, Maryland.

Houston, TX – Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is announcing new dates for their Annual Worldwide Hunting Expo and Convention.

In response to the current Covid-19 pandemic and international travel bans, the 2021 Convention has been moved to February 26-28, 2021, in Hall A3, at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Other changes include moving the Gazelles luncheon to Friday, February 26^th.

“Like many organizations, we are exploring every contingency to allow the opportunity for our international exhibitors to present their products and services at our annual event. Our focus is on the safety and well-being of attendees and exhibitors alike. Social distancing and other precautions will be in effect, based on the situation at that time. We greatly look forward to joining together with all of our friends, in a safe manner, to celebrate hunting and the outdoors!” states Joe Betar, HSCF Executive Director.

(Houston, TX- August 6, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation recently awarded its annual scholarships as part of the Dan L Duncan Scholarship program. Houston Safari Club Foundation is committed to furthering the education of students pursuing careers in the outdoors, supporting the future of tomorrow’s conservation leaders, and protecting the future of hunting.

HSCF’s Dan L. Duncan Scholarship Program annually awards scholarships to students currently involved in the study of Wildlife Management, Range Management, or related studies. This year, 24 scholarships were awarded in the total amount of $120,000. Since the program’s inception in 1999, 600 scholarships have been awarded, totaling $2.7 million dollars. HSCF proudly recognizes and encourages students, who have exhibited academic excellence and exemplary character, through our prestigious scholarship program. HSCF understands the future of conservation depends on the education of bright and gifted scholars who will work to protect hunter’s rights and wildlife conservation for decades to come. Jon grew up in Queens, NY, just a short train ride from Manhattan, where he attended LaSalle Academy, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and New York Institute of Technology. Most people cannot understand how he could have grown up being a hunter. The fact is that hunting has been a family tradition for many generations in his family. His earliest hunting memories were following his father, grandfather and uncle into the upstate NY woods chasing squirrels. Every weekend was spent scouting or hunting for whatever game was in season. He harvested his first deer at the age of 13 and has hunted in many US states, several Canadian provinces and 3 continents. Jon is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and Certified Range Safety Officer. He enjoys virtually every shooting discipline, but hunting is his passion. Supported by a very loving and supportive wife and 2 children, his faith is what guides he and his family, and it is through the strength in his faith, the support of his family and the love and passion for the outdoors that he was given the opportunity to make TRACT Optics a reality.

Having spent 15+ years working in product development and marketing for the hunting optics division of Nikon Sport Optics, Jon learned a great deal not only about optics, but virtually every aspect of the outdoor industry, from sales to logistics, inventory control to press relations, advertising to customer service.
