(Houston, TX- November 11, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation, as part of its efforts to support the future of hunting, shooting sports, conservation and youth education, recently awarded $78,000 in grants to various organizations. 

Grants were provided to Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation, Conservation Force, the Isibaya Leopard Conservation Project, the HSCF’s Veterans Outreach Program, the Texas Wildlife Association, the Spring Branch FFA Clay Crushers shooting team and the Wild Sheep Foundation. HSCF also provided $1,500 in funding to support the outdoor education programs at Hargrave High School and Crosby High School. HSCF has granted over $4 million in grants to protect and promote the future of hunting, shooting sports, education, conservation, habitat, and wildlife. The programs supported are based both domestically and abroad.

Trump Administration Returns Management and Protection of Gray Wolves to States and Tribes Following Successful Recovery Efforts

More than 45 years after gray wolves were first listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Trump Administration and its many conservation partners are announcing the successful recovery of the gray wolf and its delisting from the ESA. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt was at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge to announce that state and tribal wildlife management agency professionals will resume responsibility for sustainable management and protection of delisted gray wolves in states with gray wolf populations, while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) monitors the species for five years to ensure the continued success of the species.

President Trump Signs S. 3051, America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act

The law will Commission a study by the National Academy of Sciences regarding the pathways and mechanisms of the transmission of CWD in the United States; establish a CWD task force to develop an interstate action plan for state and federal cooperation relating to the disease; establish a program to provide grants to states and Indian tribes to compensate livestock producers for losses due to predation by federally protected species such as wolves or grizzly bears; authorize the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to issue depredation permits to livestock producers to allow for the taking of black vultures or common ravens under specified circumstances during calving or lambing season; establish a Theodore Roosevelt Genius Prize for technological innovation to reduce human-predator conflict using non-lethal means; authorize funds to combat the threat of invasive species; and encourage partnerships among public agencies and other interested parties for promoting fish conservation.

Censorship Of Hunters By Social Media

Houston Safari Club joined forces with America’s Media Watchdog (mrc.org), The Hunting Consortium Ltd. and several other organizations to present a letter of to Kevin Martin is the Vice-President for US Public Policy at Facebook. The purpose of the communication was to communicate discontent and frustration with Facebook and Instagram’s censorship of legal, regulated hunting. In recent years, there has been a marked increase in hunting-related content being removed or censored for breaching “community standards.” It clearly states in the platforms’ community standards that hunting is acceptable. However, Facebook has removed thousands of hunting and non-hunting images ties to The Hunting Consortium Ltd. and has blocked their instant messaging, link sharing and content sharing capabilities.

Houston, TX – Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is continuing to plan for its 2021 Convention. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and international travel bans, the 2021 Convention has been moved to February 26-28, 2021, in Hall A3, at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

“We are very disheartened to see our conservation partners and peer organizations being forced to cancel or modify their annual conventions. When an organization is unable to pair outfitters and manufacturers with the public and raise funds for wildlife, habitat and education programs which promote the future of hunting and conservation, no one wins. HSCF continues to work through the daily and everchanging conditions of planning for our annual convention. Our focus is on the safety and well-being of attendees and exhibitors alike. We greatly look forward to joining together with all of our friends, in a safe manner, to celebrate hunting and the outdoors!” states Joe Betar, HSCF Executive Director.

In coordination with state, local and venue authorities and their respective guidelines, protocols have been established to assist in the safe gathering of HSCF convention attendees and exhibitors. At this time, temperature checks, self-assessments and masks will be required for all Expo attendees. Banquets will be modified to allow for reduced seating at each table and adjusted spacing between tables. (Houston, TX- October 8, 2020) Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) and ‘Hunting Matters’ welcomes Tim Knesik and Mike Tippit of Capital Farm Credit.

Tim Knesek is the Capital Farm Credit Market President for the Houston Sales Region which is made up of 14 lending offices located within the Southeastern part of Texas.  Tim began his career with the Farm Credit System in 1987 working in the South Texas market area before moving to the La Grange office in 1995 where he focused on lending in the Houston/San Antonio/Austin triangle.  In January 2020, Tim began leading the 14-office sales team which serves the Houston Market footprint.  Tim obtained his undergraduate and his graduate degrees from Texas A&M University. Tim and his wife Susan live on their small farm near La Grange and have two adult daughters, Jordan, and Madison.  Both daughters, and grandson Hudson, have enjoyed many hours with Tim sharing his love for the outdoors.

Dennis M. “Mike” Tippit is a Regional VP of Sales with Capital Farm Credit in the Houston Market Area. Mr. Tippit is a 24 year veteran of the Farm Credit System starting out as a Summer Intern at the Farm Credit Bank of Texas in 1996 and eventually becoming a full-time employee later that year with Capital Farm Credit after earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University. Mr. Tippit earned an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2004. He has worked in and/or led lending teams in 10 different offices in South and Southeast Texas during his tenure with Capital Farm Credit. Mr. Tippit’s area of expertise is in long term real estate lending, particularly in urban markets. He lives in Katy, Texas with his wife, Stephanie, and their 4-year-old daughter, Sara.
