PhD student in Wildlife Science, Non-breeding ecology of northern pintails in North America
As a British national coming to Texas, I knew that I would be exposed to a culture that has a long tradition of hunting and was excited to learn about hunting ideologies, practices and ethics. Four years on, I am proud and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to explore the hunting culture in the U.S and to experience the outdoors in a way that provides me with enjoyment in being out in nature and also contributes to future conservation of wildlife. I am excited to duck hunt this upcoming winter!
My research investigates winter and spring migration ecology of GPS tracked female northern pintails captured in the Southwestern portion of the US. I investigate winter energetics, management impacts on spring migration chronology, and migration strategies of these female pintails. This research addresses some knowledge gaps in pintail late winter ecology and can help understand decision-making on spring migration to help inform on some fine scale ecological questions we are now able to tackle with current tracking technology.
