Zachary Pearson

Texas A&M University - Kingsville

Year Received: 2021
Graduate Research Assistant/ PhD. / Wildlife Sciences

Zach is a PhD student at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Originally from La Vernia, Texas his passion for wildlife conservation was fueled by time spent hunting and fishing with his family.

Accurate population estimates are key in developing effective management protocols. For more than a decade helicopter surveys have been the golden standard for quail surveys over large acreages. Currently, Zach is working to refine the methods used to collect and analyze aerial quail survey data, additionally, he is looking into the feasibility of using drones equipped with thermal cameras to detect bobwhite quail. Advancements in drone technology have made them a useful tool in wildlife management and research.  Zach plans to complete his PhD program in the Fall of 2022.
