HSC Provides Grant Support For Texas Game Warden Association Youth Hunt

HSC provided a grant to the Texas Game Warden Association (TGWA) in support of their annual youth hunt.

In October, the TGWA put on an annual youth hunt at Cedar Bayou Farms in Liberty County. Youth hunts put on by TGWA are designed to be educational hunts and enable kids to experience the outdoors and hunting. These kids have either never hunted before or rarely get the opportunity to do so.

During the weekend, Texas Game Wardens from Liberty and Galveston counties were present to educate kids on the importance of proper harvesting and processing of game animals. A total of 16 kids attended this year’s hunt, with 7 deer and 5 hogs being harvested. It was a huge success!

There were five first-time hunters that were successful in harvesting their first animal. Their experiences were captured on film! A film crew for the television series, “Wide Open Outdoor Adventures,” was on hand to record the adventure. The episode is to air spring 2015. A trailer can be seen at http://vimeo.com/110392900.

“TGWA is grateful for the continued support of HSC. The grant from HSC will allow kids to experience the world of outdoors through hunting and fishing,” stated TPWD Game Warden Vu Nguyen. “In a world of television and video games, many kids from urban areas would not get the opportunity to experience the outdoors without these types of events. Educating the young hunters of the future correctly will ensure that the resources are sustainable for future generations.”
