Price & Lodging
SAAM is offering HSC Members discounted pricing for the course – 20% off regular pricing for a 3 night/2.5 day prep course. The HSC Member Pricing for this course is $2,360 per adult student, $1,180 per youth student (under the age of 17 years), and $500 for observers.

The course fee includes 3 nights/2 days lodging, meals and beverages at the FTW Ranch. Gratuities, rifle rental, ammunition and transport/lodging to and from FTW Ranch are not included. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best and many carriers do not have a signal on the FTW Ranch.

Rental guns are available if you prefer not to bring your own; simply pay $100/Day for the gun rental and for the ammunition used. The gun rental is a daily fee and not per gun, so now is the time to test all those guns in the large variety of loaner guns in the FTW’s pool.

What is a SAAM Training Course?

Whether an expert or novice, SAAM will prepare you for any type of hunting adventure. SAAM courses simulate hunting conditions in many diverse environments, including mountainous settings for the hearty sheep, open plains for the elusive antelope and/or wooded, dense habitat for the dangerous Cape Buffalo and African Elephant.

As hunters and conservationists, it is our responsibility to be humane, ethical hunters and ensure our quarry expires instantly. SAAM has given many hunters the opportunity to be completely confident with their equipment, their own abilities and their limitations. SAAM graduates have had great success on their subsequent adventures, often taking each of their animals in one, clean shot.

SAAM Instructors include former Special Operations Instructors and individuals with decades of worldwide hunting and marksmanship experience. SAAM courses are held on the FTW Ranch located in the rugged southwest region of the Texas Hill Country (Barksdale, TX). Each course utilizes many of the FTW Ranch’s 28 diverse ranges. The lodge is equipped with wireless internet access, TV, guest phone and Nintendo Wii.

SAAM Precision Training Course

SAAM Instructors will help improve your shooting and/or hunting skills in realistic situations out to 500 yards. You will learn the effects that ballistics and the environment (elevation, wind, temperature) have on your weapons and ammunition and how to compensate for those effects on shooting ranges at very long distances. Ranges are situated throughout the FTW Ranch and simulate the types of pressures and environments that may be encountered on a variety of hunts throughout the world.

Expect to spend time in many challenging shooting scenarios and positions, adjusting for environmental conditions and surroundings to know when you can and more importantly cannot make the shot. You will become adept at observing your immediate surroundings and utilizing items in those surroundings to support your body position while getting ready to make a shot – old stumps, rocks and tree limbs can be quite useful.

SAAM Safari Training Course

Get chased by our life size elephant and buffalo targets! SAAM Safari training courses have been customized for the dangerous game hunter. Our SAAM Instructors have dangerous game hunting experience and lead students through drills and exercises designed for hunting some of Africa’s and the world’s most sought after game.

SAAM Safari prepares you for the excitement and dangers of facing quarry that may rip you to pieces if given the opportunity. Students are put through drills and exercises that are specifically designed to simulate a dangerous game hunt: tracking the game, spotting it, acquiring the target, setting up the shot by utilizing your surroundings, taking the first shot, and experiencing the pressure of the follow-up shot or shots. SAAM Safari is as close as one can get to the actual hunt.

At FTW, we strive to offer a comprehensive training course and be a source of information for students about what to expect on their own adventures. Having hunted the world-over, SAAM Instructors possess a wealth of information about dangerous game hunting and are happy to answer questions about how to work with your PH to improve the success of the entire trip.

SAAM Safari helps ensure that the huge investment of an African safari or any worldwide dangerous game hunt will be much more successful and rewarding. If nothing else, graduates leave more comfortable and confident with their rifles and their own abilities, ensuring that all participants in the hunt are safer in an environment that is relentlessly dangerous.

These courses are perfect for rifle calibers ranging from .223 to .338 for precision and 375 and up for Safari. Plan to shoot 120 – 160 rounds throughout the two days of training.
